Kevin De Bruyne’s top form at Manchester City has made the Belgian international a key member of Pep Guardiola’s starting eleven.
The blonde footballer, who topped the Premier League assists chart last season with 18, has extended his excellent form into this term with two goals and seven assists in 11 appearances as the Citizens remain unbeaten in all competitions.
Now De Bruyne’s agent Patrick De Koster is reportedly bent on using the player’s form in bid to negotiate a pay rise equal to Neymar’s earnings at PSG, according to the Telegraph.
PSG signed Neymar for £200.6 million from Barcelona this summer, and are paying him £500,000 per week, while his teammate Kylian Mbappe earns £300,000 per week. This is still miles off the current Premier League standard where Paul Pogba is the highest-paid player with a salary of £280,000 per week with Wayne Rooney coming second with £250,000 per week.
But while De Koster is convinced that his player’s stellar performances are a sufficient reason for the massive salary demands, he thinks De Bruyne is still some way off the football cream.
“He can’t expect to win the Ballon d’Or at the moment, he’s still far from footballers like Messi and [Ronaldo],” De Koster said. “Everything will depend on how much he can achieve with City, there’s still a big difference now.”
Meanwhile, the former Wolfsburg midfielder has insisted that he is in no rush to sign a new deal with The Citizens.
He said earlier: “Talks are coming. I’m patient anyway, I don’t stress. I think I read something in the press, but I have time,”
De Bruyne is currently on £115,000 per week as his contract stretches to 2021.
