Kristoffer Olsson, a midfielder for Sweden, lost consciousness at home and is now in the hospital on a ventilator.

The 28-year-old former Arsenal footballer, according to Midtjylland, is “suffering from what looks to be an acute brain-related ailment.” On February 20, the Danish club said that he had been admitted to Aarhus University Hospital.

Because of “growing rumours and suspicion concerning Kristoffer Olsson’s recent absence,” Midtjylland claimed they were “compelled” to provide an update. The club released a statement on Tuesday, saying, “Of course, everyone at FC Midtjylland is saddened by Kristoffer’s untimely sickness.”

“Kristoffer Olsson is suffering from what appears to be an acute brain-related illness, which is neither due to self-inflicted harm of any kind nor due to external factors. A team of leading Danish medical experts are currently working under pressure to make a diagnosis and initiate the correct treatment.”

Midway through the 2014–15 Premier League season, Olsson, a product of Arsenal’s junior program, made his debut for the Gunners before moving permanently to Midtjylland.

“Kristoffer, get well soon,” Arsenal said on X, formerly known as Twitter. We hope you get better quickly and completely.”

With 47 senior matches for Sweden under his belt, Olsson has spent time with AIK in Sweden, Krasnodar in Russia, and Anderlecht in Belgium in between two stints with Midtjylland.

Olsson last played for Midtjylland in the Atlantic Cup on February 9th. He has missed the club’s last two Danish Superliga games.
