Wenger denies interest in another big name, potential replacement for Sanchez

Arsene Wenger has ruled out signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as a replacement for Alexis Sanchez who looks set to leave the Emirates as soon as this month.

Aubameyang, who has been linked with a move to North London for a number of years, is enjoying yet another fruitful season with Borussia Dortmund, having scored 21 goals in all competitions half-way through the campaign.

And despite the uncertainty surrounding Sanchez’ future, Wenger insists he would rather rely on long-time servant Theo Walcott than sign a new striker. The English striker, however, is being reported to have offered his services to AC Milan in bid to end his lack of playing time under Wenger and get into the England squad in time for the World Cup in Russia.

Wenger said about Walcott: “I want him to stay. I heard about [him being linked to a move away] but I want him to stay.”

Walcott hasn’t started since Arsenal’s clash with BATE Borisov in the Europa League in early December as he find himself being dropped down the pecking order in bid to suit Wenger’s plans to save the energy of his first-team players for this year’s Top Four push.

And with the possibility of Sanchez and Mesut Ozil leaving, Arsenal look to be in a tight spot. Wenger has never denied the fact that he wants to see his star players sign new contracts, but it is fair to assume that things are completely out of his hands at this moment in time.

As the Sanchez saga nears its end, Arsenal in danger of being left without an adequate replacement until the summer. Other names that have been mentioned as potential replacements are Monaco’s Thomas Lemar, Napoli’s Lorenzo Insigne and RB Leipzig’s Emil Forsberg.

But as per usual, Wenger is keeping his cards too close to his chest.
