The Ball Is Square brings you the latest daily scoop on all things football!

Portuguese midfielder Ruben Neves, 26, has connections to Newcastle United, but it seems unlikely that he will join Al-Hilal of the Saudi Pro League in January.

Despite Manchester United’s interest in the Benfica midfielder, Bernardo Silva has suggested that he would try to convince his fellow countryman Joao Neves, 19, to go for Manchester City.

Raphael Varane, 30, a central defender from France, is not allowed to leave Manchester United until the summer transfer window, according to manager Erik ten Hag.

Juventus hopes that, despite interest from Arsenal and Manchester United, 23-year-old Serbian striker Dusan Vlahovic will sign a contract extension with the club.

Roma is eager to extend the 30-year-old’s loan deal, so Chelsea is hopeful they can trade Romelu Lukaku, a striker from Belgium, next summer.

Antoine Griezmann, a striker for France, has decided to focus only on Atletico Madrid and will not be joining Manchester United.

For less than the 60–65 million euros (£52–56 million) that Fulham had desired, the 28-year-old Portuguese midfielder Joao Palhinha will be allowed to depart to join Bayern Munich in January.

Although Spanish goalkeeper David de Gea, 33, has stated that he does not want to play for a Saudi Pro League team, Major League Soccer may be his destination in 2024.

Takehiro Tomiyasu, a defender for Japan, is wanted by Bayern Munich for next summer, but Arsenal is unwilling to allow the 25-year-old go.

Barcelona may take into consideration Thiago Alcantara, 32, of Liverpool, a Spanish midfielder, as a replacement for the injured 19-year-old Spain international Gavi.

Despite collecting up to £6 million in compensation from FIFA following his injury on international duty, Barcelona is unlikely to hunt for a permanent replacement for Gavi, and Tottenham’s 27-year-old Argentina midfielder Giovani lo Celso has also surfaced as a loan candidate.
