Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Sadio Mane’s knee injury will rule him out for the rest of the season, the club website reports.
Mane sustained the injury in a clash with Leighton Baines in Liverpool’s 3-1 victory over Everton on Saturday. Klopp reveals scans showed he will not be able to continue playing for Liverpool this season and hopes he will be ready for the next campaign.
“Sadio will, we’re pretty sure, need surgery.” The Liverpool manager said. “We’re not 100 per cent sure when it will happen, but then it is clear his season is over.
“That’s what I expected, actually, when I saw the video from the game. I thought he was lucky in this situation that not more happened, but now we are close to the end of the season, and that means it will be pretty much impossible that he will play again this season.
“But then he’ll have a long break and be ready for the next season, so that’s the only good news.”
The bad news is a huge dent to Liverpool’s aspirations of a top-four spot this year as Mane has been one of their best players thus far.
