Liverpool legend Xabi Alonso announces retirement

Former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso has revealed that he is planning to retire with Bayern Munich at the end of the season, Mirror reports.

The 35-year-old spent five fruitful years at Anfield after which he moved to illustrious clubs such as Real Madrid and Bayern Munich. Alonso still remains a key member of Carlo Ancelotti’s Bavarian side and played an important role in the German’s demolition of Arsenal in the Champions League.

The Spanish midfielder was key member of Liverpool squad that produced one of the Champions League’s best ever comebacks, coming down from 3-0 against Milan in the final. Alonso later described lifting the trophy as ‘the best moment in my professional career.’

His success continued after his move to Real Madrid in 2009, helping the win the Champions League and the La Liga title. His retirement will come after at least two successive league triumphs with Bayern Munich.

He will be sincerely missed on the football scene.
