Arsenal are preparing to enter a bidding war with German outfit Borussia Dortmund for the signature of Marseille’s youngster Christopher Rocchia, the Sun reports.
The 19-year-old left-back, who is Patrice Evra’s understudy at the French club, is contractually tied to Marseille until the end of the season and would come cheap should the Gunners decide to act in January.
It is believed that Arsenal’s chief French scout Gilles Grimandi has already made contact with Rocchia’s representatives, and that the player has expressed interest to move abroad.
The Gunners will however have to fight off interest from Borrusia Dortmund who are in the market for a left-back. Marseille have also offered the youngster a new long-term contract in attempt to tie down his future.
Rocchia is likely to be more interested in moving to London due to Wenger’s reputation as one of Europe’s best developers of young talent. The youngster is currently evaluated at around £15 million.
