Ross Barkley did not complete a move, as expected in the summer, to either Tottenham Hotspur or Chelsea. The Toffees had accepted a £35 million bid from Chelsea for Barkley, yet the England international opted to remain at Goodison Park.
It is believed he even underwent a medical at Chelsea, but a deal was not struck. Bar slight interest from Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea were the major players in the in the battle for his signature, and it looks like the two London clubs are set to lock horns again this January.
Come the New Year, Barkley’s price will drop significantly as he will have just six months left on his contract.
Rumours suggest that Barkley is waiting on Tottenham to make a move as he has expressed desire to work Maurio Pochettino. The Spurs manager sees Barkley as competition and compensation for Mousa Dembele, who has been struggling with injury so far this season. Should the deal happen, Tottenham would boast an attacking third comprised of England internationals, and would look great on paper to be the next champions of the Premier League.

Everton have already offered Barkley a wage package worth over £100,000 per week to convince him to stay, but Barkley told Ronald Koeman in July that he was seeking for a new challenge. This came just two months after Koeman had given Barkley an ultimatum to sign a new contract or be sold in the summer.
Koeman ultimately failed to offload Barkley but one thing is for sure: Everton’s hands are tied, and it’s up to Barkley to decide in January.
