French forward Kylian Mbappe, who plays for Paris St. Germain, has decided to sign with Real Madrid this summer.

With 244 goals, the World Cup champion holds the record as PSG’s top striker.

With his contract ending in June, the 25-year-old France captain has informed PSG that he wants to leave the team. Mbappe informed PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi that he was leaving the team to join Real Madrid on February 13 before training because he wanted his future resolved before March.

Although Mbappe has not yet signed an official contract with Real, that might change if the teams are unable to play one other in the Champions League this year.

Mbappe was not included in the starting lineup for Saturday’s game against Nantes due to rumours that he would be leaving, but he later scored a penalty off the bench to help PSG take a commanding 14-point lead in Ligue 1.

A five-year contract for 15 million euros (£12.8 million) a season, together with a 150 million euro (£128 million) signing-on incentive spread over five years, is expected to be agreed upon by him and Real.

With Brazilian Vinicius Jr. positioned on the left, Mbappe positioned left of centre, and England’s Jude Bellingham playing a deeper role, Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has already planned out how he would deploy Mbappe in his lineup.

Mbappe would take over the number 10 shirt that France’s Luka Modric wears if the Croatian midfielder leaves this summer. In their Champions League last-16 match, PSG leads Real Sociedad 2-0 following the first leg, while Real leads RB Leipzig 1-0.
