Moises Caicedo’s reason for not signing with Liverpool was that their interest was “too late” in the transfer season, as the midfielder had already made up his mind to sign with Chelsea by then.

During the summer transfer season, a bidding battle broke out between Liverpool and Chelsea to buy Caicedo from Brighton & Hove Albion. Ultimately, he moved to Stamford Bridge to showcase his skills for a British record sum of £115 million.

The Reds witnessed Brighton accept a £111 million proposal for the 21-year-old, but Caicedo revealed in a Sky Sports interview that he had wished to sign with Chelsea since they had previously expressed interest in him.

“I was talking with Chelsea for a long time. It was impossible to say no to Chelsea because they were with me supporting me”, he explained. “In the summer, I suffered a lot because it was complicated to leave Brighton. They were with me, and at the last moment Liverpool called me but it was [too] late because I wanted to play for Chelsea. It was tough to say no to Chelsea.”

The 22-year-old admitted that he is going through a “difficult situation” at the moment while discussing his early experiences at Stamford Bridge. The midfielder has struggled with his form in a completely underperforming Blues squad, so things haven’t exactly gone as planned for Chelsea and their record signing since the deal.
