Rooney reiterates desire to manage after retirement

Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney has reiterated his desire to become a manager after his retirement from football.

Asked whether he would like to be a manager in an interview for the BBC, he answered: “Yes, of course.  I think when you get a bit old you start to think a bit more about the game. It’s something I would love to do. My whole life has been around football and just the minute I finish playing I would like to try and stay in the game and hopefully get the option to manage.”

31-year-old Rooney, who broke Bobby Charlton’s long-standing goal-scoring record during the weekend, is currently doing his coaching badges. But one thing he will surely miss when he gets into management is scoring goals for Manchester United in the Premier League.

“It’s an amazing feeling” Rooney said. “The initial feeling is you are playing football under water and when you score the goal, it’s like you come up for air and you can hear the crowd [and feel] the atmosphere. For that four of five seconds, it’s my feeling.”

Rooney, who currently earns £300, 000 a week, is determined to stay at United until the end of his contract in 2019, despite losing his first-team place under Mourinho.
