Sources have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur and Destiny Udogie are finalising their terms for a new long-term deal at the club.

With an inverted left-back role, Udogie has excelled under new head coach Ange Postecoglou and swiftly won over Spurs supporters this season.

Tottenham is eager to reward Udogie for his fantastic start to the season, and sources close to the team have disclosed that talks are “advanced” on a new deal. During this past Sunday’s 4-1 victory over Newcastle United at home, Udogie netted his first goal for the team.

A five-year contract was signed by Udogie to join Tottenham during the summer transfer window of 2022, however, he was loaned back to Udinese for the 2022–2023 season.

One of the last acquisitions made by former managing director of football Fabio Paratici, he was signed by Spurs because of their willingness to include such a condition in the contract, which enabled them to get the better of Brighton & Hove Albion.

While defensively he has held his own against players like Mohamed Salah and Bukayo Saka, Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou has frequently encouraged Udogie to come infield and play nearly as a number 10.

In an October Euro 2024 qualifying match against Malta, Udogie made his senior Italy debut by helping Davide Frattesi score a stoppage-time goal. A few days later, he started the Azzurri’s away match against England.

Because Udogie has played wing-back throughout his whole career, there were doubts before the 2023–24 season began about his ability to play as a traditional left-back. However, he has adapted to this new position with ease.
