Following their altercation during Spurs’ victory on Sunday, Callum Wilson, a striker for Newcastle, accused Guglielmo Vicario, the Spurs’ goalkeeper, of having “a lack of respect.”
Vicario’s grumpy response after he stopped Wilson’s forward header in the closing moments of Tottenham’s 4-1 Premier League triumph infuriated the Three Lions player.
“Isn’t there a way to win?” Wilson addressed Sky Sports. Vicario responded by writing on Instagram, “Respect is given – to everyone that respects me.”
“I think we saw it in the week when Everton were winning and (Jordan) Pickford was messing around,” Wilson added. “The goalkeeper [Vicario] starts pulling faces and messing around and it’s just a lack of respect, I thought. But I said my piece, we’re grown men and we move on.”
After missing more than a month due to a hamstring injury, Wilson made his Tottenham Hotspur Stadium comeback as a second-half replacement. Before the final whistle, he had a header stopped by the Italian keeper and set up Joelinton’s consolation goal in stoppage time.
Following their 3-0 setback against Everton on Thursday, this was Newcastle’s second loss in four days.
