According to sources, Mason Greenwood feels he has a debt to Manchester United and would welcome the chance to play for the team once more.

Since his arrest in January 2022 on suspicion of rape and violence, the 22-year-old has not been on the field for the Red Devils. A little more than a year later, fresh evidence surfaced and important witnesses withdrew, leading to the dismissal of the criminal accusations against Greenwood.

Following an internal review, Man Utd first gave thought to bringing Greenwood back into the team, but they ultimately decided against it in response to strong public criticism.

The forward was then loaned to the Spanish team Getafe. With five goals and five assists in his 21 La Liga games so far this season, Greenwood has progressed.

Several elite European teams, notably Barcelona, have taken notice of his excellent play and are thinking about making a summer transfer bid for the former England international.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the new minority stakeholder, has made hints that Man Utd may not cash in on Greenwood after the season, contrary to expectations.

In a recent interview, Ratcliffe stated that Man Utd will reevaluate Greenwood’s circumstances and “justify” their choices.

“Yes, without a doubt. We’ll decide, and we’ll explain it,” he declared. “We are in charge of football since he plays for Manchester United. The conclusion is that we must make decisions.”

Following such remarks, The Sun reported that Greenwood might be open to returning to Old Trafford as a player.
