Winger Jadon Sancho, who will play for Borussia Dortmund until the end of the season, has officially signed a loan deal in Germany from Manchester United.

Without the possibility for the German team to make the deal permanent, Sancho has arrived on a direct loan. United said in their statement: “The England international of 23 caps leaves with our best wishes for the remainder of this season.”

“When I came into the dressing room today, it felt like coming home,” Sancho said. “I know the club inside and out, I’ve always been very close with the fans here, and I’ve never lost contact with those in charge.

“I can’t wait to see my teammates again, go out on the pitch, play football with a smile on my face, set up goals, score goals and help qualify for the Champions League.”

After a significant argument with United manager Erik ten Hag earlier this season, Sancho is back in the Bundesliga hoping to re-ignite his looming career.

After being left out of the matchday lineup for September’s 3-1 loss to Arsenal, Sancho, then 23 years old, was excluded from the first-team squad for not apologising to ten Hag. He was accused of having low training standards, although he openly denied such accusations.

Although he hasn’t played competitively since that match, he hopes to find his best form again when he returns to Dortmund. In 137 appearances with the German team, Sancho has 50 goals and 64 assists.

Sebastian Kehl, the sports director of Dortmund, said of Sancho, “I’m looking forward to seeing him back in black and yellow soon. He is an incredible difference-maker. He is familiar with our supporters, our club, Signal Iduna Park, and our city. We are certain that he will soon adjust back to our team, regain his best form, and use his abilities to help us reach our season goals, even if he hasn’t played any competitive games in the last months.”
