Manchester United legend Roy Keane has taken a dig at Arsenal by saying he believes Jose Mourinho can afford to rest key players and still take the three points home against the Gunners on Sunday.
Arsenal’s chances for Champions League football seem to have evaporated lately while the Red Devils may afford to shift their focus on the Europa League – the winner of which is also granted a Champions League spot.
Arsenal have been through a rough period in recent months, which was capped by the 2-0 defeat to rivals and title-challengers Tottenham Hotspur. The Gunners now sit six points behind fourth-place Manchester City, while United are fifth and one point behind their city rivals.
“It is clear that [Mourinho’s] priority is trying to win the Europa League and guarantee Champions League football.” Keane told ITV. “I think he is right. With the way the last week has gone, prioritise winning a trophy, definitely.”
“Well even a weak team would probably still beat Arsenal. They can afford to do that.”
Manchester Untied travel to play Celta Vigo today before going to the Emirates on Sunday. On paper, United are favourites to win the Europa League this year, but will likely be greeted in the final by an in-form Ajax who defeated Lyon 4-1 in the first leg of the other semi-final.
