Ibrahimovic rues missed chances in Hull draw

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has admitted Manchester Untied’s forward line should have been more clinical in their goalless draw against Hull City at Old Trafford.

United failed to break open Marco Silva’s team, who are currently fighting to escape the relegation zone, which saw them miss an opportunity to gain on the top four.

“I think today was not about luck,” Ibrahimovich told MUTV. “Because luck, if you don’t play good and you get a chance, half chance and score, maybe it’s more luck but today we had great chances to score and we didn’t finish good enough and that happens.”

United dominated possession for most of the game but saw their six shots on target brilliantly parried by Hull’s goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic. Juan Mata received United’s best chance of the game but failed to score from six yards. Despite the disapopinting draw United are still undefeated in 20 games in the Premier League.

“It would [have been] nice to win today,” Ibrahimovic continued, “because the other teams lost points and we would [have] come closer to, let’s say the top four, even for me top four is not my aim. My aim is to win the whole Premier League and if you don’t win, you don’t come close, that’s it.

“If you make a goal in the last minute you will still win but if you don’t score, you don’t win and I think we had some great chances to score but we didn’t score, so keep creating, keep creating and we missed the last third part of the field. We were not doing like we know how to do it and are able to do.”

Manchester United’s manager Jose Mourinho was equally disappointed by the lack of goals but also hinted referee Mike Jones might have been too lenient towards Hull’s time-wasting tactics.

“Their goalkeeper was good.” Mourinho said, “We needed to score, we needed more time to play. If you played 35-40 minutes in both halves, it is a lot. I think Hull City tried to see where they could go, the way they could behave and tried to see what the referee would allow them to do.

“They had the feedback and were comfortable to do what they did. I am not critical of that. They are fighting against relegation and every point is gold.”

United travel to champions Leicester City on Sunday.
