Italian Football Federation president Carlo Tavecchio has identified Antonio Conte as the greatest fit for the Italian job following the dismissal of Giampiero Ventura, Gazetto Dello Sport reports (via Metro).
Conte is currently struggling to get the Blues back on track to defending their title last year with the team trailing to leaders Man City by nine points.
Conte managed Italy before he arrived at Stamford Bridge in 2016 and has been linked with a return. Things are not going well at Chelsea at the moment and there are even rumours that the Italian boss has falled out with Roman Abramovich’ right-hand woman Marina Granovskaia.
Asked about who he considers the best fit for the open Italian job, Tavecchio said: “Massimo Allegri, Roberto Mancini, Carlo Ancelotti…I say getting warmer.
“And Conte? Fire.”
Conte took Italy to the Euro 2016 where they were defeated by Germany in a penalty shoot-out in the Round of 16 of the tournament. Conte initially signed a two-year deal with the Azzurri but refused to extend it due to desire of managing at club level.
But with things not going as planned at Chelsea, Conte might be tempted to take the Italy reign again.
