Courtous reveals desire to stay at Chelsea long-term

Chelsea keeper Thibaut Courtois has revealed that he has no intention of leaving Chelsea amidst speculation linking him to Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Courtois, who’s been an inseparable part of Conte’s plans this season, was rumoured to be targeted by Madrid as a potential replacement for Keylor Navas.

“No, I don’t see myself at Real Madrid” Courtois said. “I see myself at Chelsea, the club that six years ago saw me playing in Belgium and gave me the opportunity to sign them.

“They also allowed me to be three years at Atletico, which helped me to be the keeper that I am now. I feel that I’m key to the team, I am very happy at Chelsea, and I don’t see myself anywhere else.”

The Belgian at 19 in 2011 and joined Atletico Madrid on loan until 2014. His performances helped Chelsea secure their fifth Premier League title in 2015 and has remained an important first-team player ever since. His current contracts stretches to 2019, but Courtois reveals there are currently no offers from the club to extend it.

“For the time being, we have not spoken about a contract extension.” he said. “We are focusing on the league. We will see at the end of the season if they offer me something. For the time being there has not been an offer.

“I am happy in London and I’m delighted with the success we are having this season. I owe a lot to Spain and I go often there to visit the family, who are in Madrid. But I’m happy in London.”

Chelsea currently look unreachable at the top of the Premier League, 10 points clear of second-placed Tottenham with 10 games to go. Courtois thinks it’s all down to how well the players have glued to Antonio Conte’s tactics.

“We are working well with Conte.” he continued. “I see that there is a long-term project to win trophies, not just domestically but also in Europe. There is a lot of ambition to play in the Champions League next season.”
