Courtois to Atletico Madrid? Keeper has put Chelsea contract talks on hold.

Courtois move to Atletico dependent on PSG getting Oblak

La Liga outfit Atletico Madrid is waiting on PSG to make an official offer for Jan Oblak before moving in for Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois.

Courtois has reportedly put talks with Chelsea on hold upon learning of interest from Atletico, where he spent a three-year loan spell between 2011 and 2014.

The 25-year-old keeper has never hidden the fact that he loves the time he spent at Atletico and his resolve to move back to the Spanish capital could be further tested by his wife having moved there with his two kids earlier in the year.

PSG tried to get Oblak in the summer with president Nasser Al Khelaifi reported to have talked with Atletico’s representatives but a deal failed to materialise.

The French giants are looking for an upgrade between the posts to help them in the quest for Champions League glory, but they would have to pay the full amount of Oblak’s release clause to get him – €100 million.

Chelsea have been trying to secure the signature of Courtois for some time now, but to no avail. Asked about his contract talk situation, Courtois said earlier: “Regarding my contract, that’s the thing where Chelsea must deal with my agent.

“I don’t think there have been any new developments. We have so many games at the moment, and I prefer to focus on the team’s games, my own performance, and there will be time enough towards the end of the season to have talks.”

Real Madrid are also rumoured to be interested in the former Genk keeper.  His current contract with Chelsea runs out in 2019.
