Conte admits previous attempt to sign Sanchez

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has revealed his admiration for Arsenal contract rebel Alexis Sanchez, but has refused to answer questions about any concrete interest in signing bringing him to Stamford Bridge.

Sanchez finds himself in the last six months of his contract at the Emirates with Manchester United, Manchester City and PSG among the favourites to secure his signature this January or in the summer.

The Italian was captured talking, briefly, to Sanchez in the tunnel of Stamford Bridge following the 0-0 draw in the Carabao Cup. And although Conte has revealed that he tried to sign Sanchez when he the manager of Juventus, he has stood his ground over probing whether he would go after him now.

“I said hello.” Conte said about the situation. “He is a great player, he knows very well that in Juventus I tried to buy him from Udinese but he went to Barcelona.

“He knows very well my admiration for him. So it was a good chance to say hello to him. No other situation or conversation. I repeat for sure I have great admiration for players and he is one of them. I stop.”

Asked where he thinks Sanchez would end up, Conte added: “I don’t know. You will have to ask him which is his choice, or ask Arsenal.

“They have to decide his future before June. His future will be in a great club.”
