Arsenal given big boost in star striker chase

Lyon director Bernard Lacombe has admitted that plans have already been set in place in anticipation of a ‘difficult life’ after a possible summer departure of their star striker Alexandre Lacazette.

Lacazette has been immense for Lyon this season and has so far scored an amazing 30 goals in 34 matches.

The French striker’s terrific form has put a number of clubs, among which Arsenal, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, on high alert, but it is believed they would have to break their bank to bring him in.

“The departure of Alex would be very difficult for the club.” Lacombe said. “Because even if we could make lots of money, he is an immense player and I do not think we will understand the magnitude of his departure fully until it happens.

“Then, it will be a lot more difficult for us, even if we make a good decision on the replacement that would come in. I don’t know which team he will go [to]. I hope for only one thing, that he will stay with us for another year, or two, because he is an immense player.”

Arsenal have been criticised for lacking a world-class striker despite having the second-best goal-scoring record in the Premier League this season and are believed to be ready to spend big in the summer amidst plans for a structural shuffle.

Lacazzete has a year and a half left on his contract with Lyon.
