Manchester United are the latest club to enter the race for OGC Nice's Jean Seri, according to Guardian journalist Ed Aarons.
The 26-year-old defensive midfielder has attracted considerable interest from a number of elite clubs among which PSG, City and Chelsea with his fine form this season.
It is understood Mourinho will move on to Seri after completing the deal for Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal in bid to ward off consequences of losing Marouane Fellaini. Mourinho is desperate to keep Fellaini whose contract runs out at the end of the season, but the Belgian has been stalling on signing a new one so far.
Mourinho, however, will face tough competition from City and Chelsea who are in the market for quality defensive midfielders.
The Ivory Coast international has impressed as a deep-laying playmaker, having added four assists and a goal to his name this season as Nice are currently sixth in the Ligue 1 standings.
It is understood Seri favours a move to the Premier League rather than remaining in the French league despite a possible jump to the bigger Paris Saint-Germain.
He is currently evaluated at £35 million.
