New signing Alexis Sanchez has urged Jose Mourinho to sign Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti.
Sanchez moved to Old Trafford in a swap deal involving Henrikh Mkhitarayn going the opposite way and is currently the best paid player in the Premier league, earning near 500,000 a week.
And now Matias Garcia of Don Balon claims that Sanchez has dived straight into the plans for improving United’s title chances. The Chilean has looked no other than his former club Barcelona, identifying contract rebel Umtiti as the right upgrade for his new club’s defence.
Umtiti is yet to sign a new deal at Camp Nou despite attempts by the Catalan team to secure his future there. Barcelona are well aware that Umtiti has a tasty release clause of around £50 million which has been attracting interest from top clubs in Europe.
He has been a long-term target of Jose Mourinho, but the Red Devils face competition from Pep Guardiola who is also looking to strengthen his back-line.
Umtiti’s contract with Barcelona stretches to 2021.
