Manchester United vs. Stoke City: Three things to expect from the game

Manchester United welcomes Stoke City at Old Trafford today as United seek league redemption at home against the potters. The likes of Paul Pogba and company will be in action as all eyes set to watch the match at Old Trafford for the last match of the weekend.

Last time they met, they drew 2-2 at the Britannia Stadium.

However, Jose Mourinho will be looking to impress at home after taunting Antonio Conte with a win as Chelsea drew goalless with Leicester City at the weekend.

We take a look at the three things to expect from Manchester vs Stoke City.

United to make amends

The match promises to be a mouth-watering encounter as both sides have so much to play for at either end of the league table.

With United dropping points against Southampton at home coupled with an unpleasant 2-2 draw away at Leicester recently, they will be looking to throw it all in bid to keep the heat on Man City.

Life after Mark Hughes

The Potters might have scuffled out some results in the Premier League this season but their position in the league shows how poor they have been overall this term. This was probably not helped by the exit of star forward Marko Arnautovic who left fot West Ham United in the summer.

This series of poor results led to the sacking of manager Mark Hughes from the Stoke hot seat as Hughes joins the growing list of sacked coaches in the Premier League this season just like that of Swansea City’s Paul Clement some weeks ago.

Hughes was relieved of his duties at Stoke City about nine days ago leaving the cub with a life after Hughes to ponder. This is not coming at the best possible time for Stoke City as they have a daunting task at Old Trafford against a United side looking for opportunity to turn around their season.

Response needed from United

This United-Stoke clash presents the Red Devils with the chance to remedy their season the best possible way as they trade tackles with Stoke knowing fully the importance of the tie and what it  could bring to Manchester United’s season.

Liverpool got the job done at Anfield yesterday with an impressive win against City, and United need to respond to that.

The City defeat have given United some hope in the title race as Manchester City drops three vital points on the road despite their attempts to get themselves back into the game thus reducing the deficit to 4-3 at the closing stages.

United must win to offer themselves a mathematical chance of catching the Citizens as a win will draw them a step closer to the Noisy Neighbour and league favourite Manchester City.
