Both Lisandro Martinez and Casemiro are not expected to recover from their injuries until Christmas, according to Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag.
Due to several injuries and conditioning issues, Ten Hag has not been able to start the Red Devils’ season with their strongest lineup. In addition to Lisandro Martinez, who just had surgery to fix a recurrent metatarsal issue, the Red Devils are now missing Casemiro, who suffered a hamstring injury during last week’s Carabao Cup loss to Newcastle United.
Casemiro was expected to only be out of play for a few weeks due to his injury, and Martinez was not expected to play again for the remainder of the year. But, Ten Hag admitted in remarks made ahead of FC Copenhagen’s Champions League match on Wednesday that he is also running out of time to make a comeback this year.
“I have some time schedules, yeah, but it’s always difficult to predict that because they can get setbacks during the rehab period, so I’m always holding back a little bit on some issues,” Ten Hag said.
“I expect some [players] back but Casemiro and Martinez are really strong injuries and I don’t expect them back before Christmas. It’s several weeks.”
