Former Manchester United defender Paul Parker has revealed that new signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic has not yet earned the right to extend his stay at Old Trafford for another year.
According to Parker, Ibrahimovic is not the right type of player to drive the team forward despite the striker’s 24 goals in 32 this season.
“We have to look at where United are at the end of the season and ask if they have played the right kind of football. “ he told 888sport.
“Yes, Ibrahimovic’s goals have been very important but does he enhance the way the team players? For me there are still negatives and when he scores he gets the headlines but when he doesn’t, he’s not involved in enough play.
“When you keep reading about a new contract you wonder where that’s coming from.”
Ibrahimovic has scored four goals and assisted for one in his last five matches as United have won the last seven games with him scoring a goal in each. The Red Devils have also drawn twice and lost once when he has failed to do so.
Mourinho revealed as early as November last year that he will be pursuing the option to extend Zlatan’s stay at United for another year.
