Arsenal receive another blow in bid to find replacement for exit-bound Sanchez

Wenger to battle with Mourinho for RB Leipzig’s Emil Forsberg in bid to find Sanchez replacement

Arsenal receive another blow in bid to find replacement for exit-bound Sanchez

Arsenal have received another blow in their search to replace exit-bound Alexis Sanchez this winter as Jose Mourinho is reportedly interested in their long-term target, Sweden’s Emil Forsberg.

Mourinho travelled to San Siro yesterday to watch Forsberg in Sweden’s shock aggregate victory over Italy to qualify for next year’s World Cup, and was hardly disappointed as the attacking midfielder was among the best players on the pitch.

The interest from Manchester United will hardly make Arsene Wenger happy since he has all but given up on losing his star player Alexis Sanchez to either PSG or Manchester City this January and is forced to look for a replacement.

The latest developments are likely to be used by RB Leipzig as leverage to boost the price of their player.

Leipzig already ruled out the possibility of selling their key players in the summer, but, according to the Independent, Forsberg will push for a move either this winter or next summer in bid to secure his place in the Champions League.

United and Arsenal were among the clubs interested in the 25-year-old in the summer, with the Red Devils rumoured to have made a bid of £44 million for the player.

Forsberg is seen as the perfect Arsenal player because of his ability to play wide, cut inside and provide incisive passes. The technically gifted Swede has been undeniably the star of RB Leipzig this season having helped his club stay only four points off leaders Bayern Munich thus far.

Forsberg has contributed with four goals and two assists in 13 games so far this season. He is contracted to RB Leipzing until 2022.
