Is there a swap deal involving Hazard and Dembele on the cards for Barcelona and Chelsea?

Will Chelsea offer Eden Hazard for Ousmane Dembele?

Eden Hazard is undoubtedly one of the best attackers in Europe. The 26-year-old star has scored 11 goals and booked eight assists in all competitions so far, including a brace in Chelsea’s 4-0 victory over Brighton last week. And this is in no way something new. The Belgian has been consistently a top performer for the Blues since joining from Lille in 2012.

But he is only tied to Chelsea until 2020 and securing his signature on a new deal has been protracted for way too long.

It is no secret that Hazard is an amidrer of Real Madrid and would like to end up there some day, and this is a big worry for the Chelsea board. Despite the fact Hazard is not giving any signs that he will leave – on the contrary he has said that his focus is on Chelsea, he is yet to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge. Previously, the Belgian’s father claimed that his son refused to renew his contract at Stamford Bridge to join Los Blancos in the summer of 2018.

And now according to Don Balon report, the 2016/2017 Premier League winners have devised a back-up plan: to offer Hazard to Barcelona in a swap deal with Ousmane Dembele.

The Catalan giants  signed the France international from Borussia Dortmund for 105 million Euro last summer – their most expensive signing  before the arrival of Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool this January.

Unfortunately, prolonged injuries have ruined Dembele’s integration into the team. He has only appeared seven times in all competitions and is yet to score his first goal. Dembele suffered a left hamstring injury in the match against Real Sociedad on January 15, forcing him to be sidelined for the next four weeks.

Nevertheless, Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde has refused to exaggerate Dembele’s problem, saying that the problem is considered minor compared to the injury in September.

Dembele missed Copa Del Rey’s second leg match against city rivals Espanyol on Thursday and skipped La Liga’s away game against Real Betis last weekend when Lionel Messi and colleagues won 5-0.

The latest report stated that Real Madrid have stepped up their offer for Hazard by offering Chelsea Marco Asensio, who has yet to show his best this season. Both sides have not released any statements so far.

And, one question remains: Are The Blues ready to lose one of their most valuable assets and at what cost?
