Wenger praises brilliant Ozil amidst exit rumours

Arsene Wenger has praised man-of-the-match Mesut Ozil after Arsenal beat Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday.

Ozil finished the game with one goal and one assists as Arsenal recorded their first victory away from home this season, coming back from a one-goal deficit to beat the struggling Toffees 5-2.

Ozil has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United in January with Arsenal risking to lose their player for free in the summer should they not sell him this winter. It is believed Arsenal have surrendered to the possibility of losing Ozil, but Wenger insists that performances on the pitch are the only thing that matters right now.

“We live in an environment where we have to deal with wrong news.” he said. “When you seen Mesut focused and like he was today and enjoying his game, it’s difficult to believe these type of things.

“He was superb. Agile, quick and intelligent. Always at the service of the team with the quality of his passing.

“When he is at that level he is an exceptional football player.”

Ozil has been on the receiving end of criticism for his seemingly uncommitted attitude and lazy style of playing, but his latest performance helped the Gunner secure their first three points away from home.

Arsenal have struggled in their visits this campaign, having managed only four points in five games as they currently trail leaders Manchester City by nine points after nine games.

They are now set to play Norwich City in the Carabao Cup tomorrow at 7:45 p.m.
