Ex-Arsenal defender Gael Clichy has questioned supporters’ wish to see Wenger out as he believes there is currently no one better to do this kind of job within the club’s current structure, Reuters reports.

Clichy spent eight years under Wenger and abandoned ship for Manchester City in 2011.

“If you take him off and you bring someone else with the same structure, would he be better?” he said. “I’m not sure. If the club is spending more money and they have the players they need, then perhaps Wenger is the perfect man.

“You always want something new when you are used to something and what you get is probably most of the time not better…so you have to be careful what you wish for.”

Wenger is a tough spot this season as Arsenal are likely to miss out on a top four position which Wenger has managed to reach in each of the 20 years he’s been at the club. But they have seriously trailed clubs like Chelsea and Manchester City on the transfer market in recent years, with their most expensive transfer being Mesut Ozil for only 42 million.

The fans opinion of Wenger is currently at an all time low but it is believed he is still set to sign a two-year contract extension.
