Is Emre Can set to leave Liverpool in January?

Liverpool winger Emre Can has yet to sign a new deal at Anfield. The Germany international’s contract will expire at the end of the season, meaning he is free to discuss his terms with any suitors in January.

Juventus are keen on signing the former Bayern Leverkusen and Bayern Munchen star. However, despite the interest, the Italian champions confirmed they wouldn’t hire anyone in the winter transfer window.

The reason why Can hasn’t put a pen to paper at Anfield yet is that the 23-year-old wants to have a release clause inserted inthe new plan while the 2005 Champions League winners want to secure him for the long future, according to journalist Ste Hoare.

The Bianconeri have to battle with the wealthy Manchester City to sign Can. Some reports in Italy suggest that The Citizens are ready to offer Can £4 million a season.

Manchester City know very well how to deal with the Financial Fair Play policy. Therefore, they will likely go for Alexis Sanchez  this January, for a £15 million discount or next summer for free.  If that’s the case, Pep Guardiola will let David Silva go. And The Reds are more than just happy to create a space for the former Valencia midfielder.

Another alternative for Can’s replacement is Naby Keita. The Guinean starlet is set to move to Liverpool next summer. Still, the departure of Can is seen as a significant blow to most Liverpool fans.

Can is a defensive midfielder, but he can play as a centre-back. Last season, he appeared in 32 games and scored five goals. One of his most outstanding goals was his bicycle kick against Watford last May, which earned the club’s Goal of The Season.

Can helped the German national side beat Chile 1-0 in the Confederations Cup final earlier.
