Lucas Perez says he needs time to adjust to Premier League

Lucas Perez has revealed he will need more time to get used to life in England and Premier League football.

The Spanish striker who arrived from Deportivo La Coruna in the summer has so far performed terrifically, scoring seven goals and making three assists despite Wenger opting to use Giroud and Sanchez instead. But Perez feels he can offer more.

“Players are all different, so some take longer to adapt than others.” he told the club website. “It was still quite a change for me to get used to the English league when I moved here from Spain. Everyone needs some time to adjust.”

Perez has impressed in the only four full matches he has played at Arsenal, in three of which he has either scored or assisted. He drew praises for his performances in Champions League against Ludogorets by providing two assists and for his hat-trick against FC Basel in December. Perez says he will remember those moments for a long time.

“I was really happy as that was the first time in my career I was in the starting line-up for a Champions League match. What more can you ask for – to win, to qualify top of the group and to score three goals? I am delighted with how things went and it’s an experience I will remember for a long time.

“It’s a competition that you always want to play in. I’ve dreamt of playing in it and I’ve been able to realise that dream here at Arsenal.”

Perez finds himself further down the pecking order and despite Wenger’s appreciation for the player’s Champions League feats, the manager has admitted he was only a temporary solution to injured Danny Welbeck.

“At the start of the season I bought Lucas, who for me is a very good player.” Wenger said earlier. “But why? Because Welbeck was out until now basically and I didn’t know how long it would take.”
