Neville: Zlatan is an ‘absolute animal’

Former Manchester United defender Phil Neville has praised Ibrahimovic who scored two in yesterday’s dramatic United win over Southampton in the EFL Cup final.

Neville has joined a list of others who have been impressed by the 35-year-old striker – he simply never fails to deliver. Ibrahimovic has now bagged 26 goals in all competitions this season.

“He’s an absolute animal.” Neville said. “It’s getting to that time where talking about the best player in the premier league and he’s up there. There are times when he is carrying United, and he reminds me of Roy Keane with his aggression.

“He never knows when he’s beat. It’s also the quality of his finishing, he is world class and some people here didn’t think he was.”

Zlatan grew up in a small ghetto district in Malmo and has on more than occasion stated the character building influence of such upbringing. Neville has also seen that in him.

“When you are a manager and you join a new club, you need that person who sings out of your hymn sheet and I think Zlatan is that leader. I know Rooney lifted the cup but I think Zlatan is the leader on the pitch.”

Neville didn’t stop with the praises here and compared Ibrahimovic to a true Manchester  United legend.

“Cantona, when he walked on the pitch with his collar up, you thought “I love Old Trafford” – he had an aura and he had the confidence. [Zlatan] is the same, you see his interviews after the game.

“Sometimes you hate people who have that much arrogance but I actually love that arrogance because he actually delivers at the same time as well.”
